This is very useful information for all of us to gain more information about who our ancestors were through the power of location.
The third lecture us of special interest to me with my grandmother's line. Everyone was friendly. Toronto West - living within a couple of miles of each other. Of special interest is one uncle who left Canada and his family, changed his name, left his wife from the same district in Toronto,for the U.S. Now,I will check marriage recordsin the U.S. to see if he remarried there.

I was using spatial and locational aspects of genealogy before the Internet facilitated research. It makes absolute sense to get to know the topography of where your ancestors lived and also the connections between groups of people with different surnames. Very thought provoking. Thanks you.

This was very interesting and I could certainly see how this would help me in my search! My mum’s family cane from Northern Ireland and I have now found census in 1901 & 1911 and it was great to see other people in neighbouring houses with same surnames! They could be relations and I will research this further. Thank you for your help, some of my family moved to Scotland and now I can use your information to find out why? Possibly the Irish famine, but could be other reasons.

Thanks - it gives me a greater insight to my ancestors locations. I will certainly revisit my direct ancestors documents and view through different 'eyes'.
