I have cousins who tell me they had to pick cotton before going to school; in South Carolina. They're my age.

Having been raised in New York, it is a hard concept for me to grasp. Especially after looking at your pictures!

Can I say 'naive'? LOL

Thank you for posting this picture. Picking cotton played a big role in my mother's family. As a matter of fact, she quit school after 8th grade because every year she had to wait until cotton picking was finished to be able to start school.
